During the 1960's much of Mossley was a slum, with many of the old mills closed, the worker housing fell into disrepair and had to be pulled down. The land was then left often falling foul of flytippers and rampant overgrowth.
in 2011 this plot was given to the Friends of Mossley Park in order to create a community garden and over the years, various individuals and groups have taken it on including local residents and Incredible Edible Mossley who promote active growing and sharing of plant knowledge.
ReCreate first got involved in 2017 as an opportunity to practice woodworking skills learned by making pallet furniture. Our aim was provide a living wall with plants and artwork and spaces to enjoy the view and wildlife. The wall has become a frame for our outdoor metal work classes and we each made a bee themed tableau to display there.
2025 Update: We are planning to revamp the site and transform it into a 'Poetry Garden' with word art and a reading corner for families, this work is being done in partnership with I.E. Mossley and Ride Out Loud.
