I am in the renewal period for my mattcatt hosting and domain subscriptions. I have been reflecting upon the real value of my web works and the need to balance them with more practical output.
In the beginning i was under the impression that having an online portfolio was vital and ultimately would bring in more work. Instead it has brought me frustration as i discover just how saturated the open market is. I am but a small fish in a big pool and feeling quite vulnerable without my regular clients or a strong USP. Worst still any big move made online is dogged by persistent profit mongering that in my opinion add to the distraction and take away from the essence of the online social experience. The job is made complicated by digital obsolescence and changing standards. It’s at times like these that I tend to revert back to classic ‘hands on’ tasks that I feel better equipped to manage and adopt a ‘wait and see’ approach to the rest.
I had ground to a virtual halt over winter and found myself pondering on the various projects backed up and which one could I pull from the log jam to keep busy with.
My 12volt sound system aka ‘Le Chateaux Blastere’ has now been fitted with a new ’smaller’ battery and that’s getting charged off my solar panel. I require a portable ipod mixer to complete the array and am debating between 4 and 8 tracks of input. The latter would suit more intermediate applications like group jamm sessions but adds another £60 to the budget so is still a constraint. Regardless, for a small sum i have a working portable sound system, so its game on in time for summer.
Subsequently the urge to DJ gets stronger again with some great new tracks added to my collection.
Spring it ON!!!!
