valerie du vale

It's been a productive few months since my last update.

In june, our craft club ReCreate - Mossley got together and transformed a plywood mammoth as part of the Marvellous Mossley Great Community Get Together, For two weeks prior to event, the mammoths were part of a hunt to get people exploring the area and meeting the groups who offer a wide range of community activities. I had mainly technical input and worked on making it structural and functional, i also sourced some of the materials including the fluffy coat which was filling from old sun lounger cushions! I'm particularly proud of the L.E.D. lighting made from milk bottles that wrapped around her feet and Emily's finishing touch was to make it interactive by allowing golden ribbons to be tied on......a stroke of pure genius with a simple message "today you tie ribbons, tomorrow you could actually be in the carnival". We were told to try and use as much recycled material as possible, which we did by just adding glue, glitter and paint....Valerie du Vale is one lean carnival queen x It is now confirmed that she will be making an appearance at at least 2 more events this year.

We have more projects lined up for ReCreate and already it has put me in touch with other local arts groups, watch this space.....

The other exciting event news is that this weekend i will be back at Festival8 in Lincolnshire, closing the silent disco on Friday night.

It will be at least another year before i can get back to doing more regular shows, in the long term I'm unsure as to whether i would be that bothered about many of the events commercially listed especially with favourites like The Secret Garden Party ending their runs. For now I'd rather do small things like Festival8 and continue to learn the skills required to put on events closer to home. The Vale are hosting their own on 21st August called Celebrate. I am proud to announce that my daughter is on the management team for this and I shall be providing creative support too, more on that and the light festival HERE.

finally in case you haven't heard here's my latest mixcloud recording.
Enjoy your summer and hope to share more with you soon.
